Hulk Hogan och Gawker Media gör upp i goda
Hogan får 31 miljoner dollar

Hulk Hogan och det numera konkursade mediabolaget Gawker Media gör upp i godo skriver Gawkers grundare Nick Denton i ett blogginlägg. Det var i mars som Hogan tilldömdes ett skadestånd på 140 miljoner dollar för att Gawker hade publicerat en privat sexfilm där Hogan figurerade. Gawker överklagade domen men har nu beslutat att göra upp i godo med Hogan som nu får 31 miljoner dollar. Det hela slutade med att Gawker Media gick i konkurs och konkursboet köptes upp av Univision och blev istället Gizmodo Media Group. Det mest oroande i hela den här härvan var att det efter domen visade sig att miljardären och PayPayl-grundaren Peter Thiel hade finansierat Hogans stämning med avsikt att sänka Gawker Media då han inte gillat vissa artiklar som Gawker skrivit om honom och hans bekanta tidigare. Denton avslutar sitt blogginlägg med:
"It's a shame the Hogan trial took place without the motives of the plaintiff's backer being known. If there is a lasting legacy from this experience, it should be a new awareness of the danger of dark money in litigation finance. And that's surely in the spirit of the transparency Gawker was founded to promote. As for Peter Thiel himself, he is now for a wider group of people to contemplate."
