Ledningen för OS i Japan 2020 har meddelat att man kommer att skrota spelens nyframtagna logga, som man presenterade så sent som i juli, efter det att man har blivit anklagade för att ha kopierat logotypen till en belgisk teater, höger på bilden ovan. Toshio Muto, chef för Japans OS-kommitté sa på en presskonferens:
"We're certain the two logos are different. But we became aware of new things this weekend and there was a sense of crisis that we thought could not be ignored.
We have reached a conclusion that it would be only appropriate for us to drop the logo and develop a new emblem. At this point, we have decided that the logo cannot gain public support."
Formgivaren Olivier Debie, som tog fram logotypen till Theatre de Liege, har sedan tidigare, tillsammans med Theatre de Liege, stämt den japanska OS-organisationen då de ville förbjuda organisationen att använda logotypen.
