Kometen 67P/C-G stinker
Rosetta har analyserat kometens grundämnen
Den europeiska rymdmyndigheten ESA har publicerat lite nya bilder från kometen 67P/C-G som rymdfarkosten Rosetta fotograferat och även kommit fram till att kometen antagligen luktar väldigt illa.ESA skriver själva om kometens lukt i ett blogginlägg:
"The perfume of 67P/C-G is quite strong, with the odour of rotten eggs (hydrogen sulphide), horse stable (ammonia), and the pungent, suffocating odour of formaldehyde. This is mixed with the faint, bitter, almond-like aroma of hydrogen cyanide. Add some whiff of alcohol (methanol) to this mixture, paired with the vinegar-like aroma of sulphur dioxide and a hint of the sweet aromatic scent of carbon disulphide, and you arrive at the 'perfume' of our comet."
Det är med hjälp av sensorn ROSINA (Rosetta Orbiter Spectrometer for Ion and Neutral Analysis) som man har kunnat detektera och avgöra kometens lukt. Sedan tidigare hade ROSINA upptäckt vatten, kolmonoxid, koldioxid, ammoniak, metangas samt metanol på 67P/C-G men nu har man även upptäckt formaldehyd, svavelväte, vätecyanid, svaveldioxid och koldisulfid. Det verkar med andra ord inte som om den här kometen skulle vara det trevligaste stället att bo på.
