Lovande försök med vaccin mot ebola
Vårdpersonal kan komma att vaccineras nästa år
Foto: Unicef / FlickrLäkemedelsföretaget GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) har tillsammans med amerikanska folkhälsoinstitutet tagit fram ett vaccin mot ebola som man säger nu visar lovande resultat.Vaccinet har testats på 20 personer i USA varav alla uppvisade antikroppar mot viruset och ingen drabbades av biverkningar efter att ha fått vaccinet. Dr Moncef Slaoui GSK säger:
"We are very encouraged by these positive first trial results showing this type of vaccine has an acceptable safety profile and can produce an immune response against Ebola in humans. It’s important to remember that these data are the first piece in the jigsaw and we’re continuing to gather other important information. Over the coming weeks, we will see results from further phase 1 trials which will tell us more about the profile of the monovalent vaccine; most significantly results from a trial in Mali which is assessing its safety and immune response in West African populations."Om de fortsatta försöken med vaccinet visar sig vara positiva kan man börja vaccinera hjälparbetare, vårdpersonal samt begravningsentreprenörer redan i början av nästa år.
